In the musical performance "The Black Book of Esther" events described in ancient canonical texts are intertwined with documentary evidence of recent history, creating a special and surrealistic world out of time and space. In the musical and story stained-glass windows of the carnival square theme of one of the most ancient and joyful holidays Purim, dedicated to the rescue of the Jews of Persia by Queen Esther from destruction in the period of the reign of Ahasuerus (Artaxerxes), look through the reflections of one of the the most terrible catastrophes of the 20th century, captured in the documentary collection by Ilya Ehrenburg and Vasily Grossman "The Black Book".
The humor and imagination of the creators of the play offer a new look at the important for theme of xenophobia of our days as a common civilizational problem, taking on different guises over the for centuries and on the agenda of news feeds in developed countries and to this day.
