The video work "Trees and Grasses," created especially for the exhibition in Peredelkino Writers' Town, is devoted primarily to the work of the Soviet writer Vladimir Zazubrin. Drawing on the contrasts between the two characters in his story "The Scrapbook" - the doubting Chekist and the convinced Chekist who executes people like cattle — I come to the theme of revolutionary terror again, comparing the latter with the chopping down of trees. There is a well-known saying: "a forest is cut, the chips fly," and, guided by the imagistic world of Zazubrin’s story, I build a visual series dedicated to trees and grasses — victims of human cruelty, as people — the same victims.
